Hello everyone.I want to upgrade my cpu to pair it with a R9 270. I have a phenom ii x 965 overclocked at 3.8ghz and i dont really play very demanding games. So i just want a good upgrade that will be able to handle newer games just in case.

Solution
CPU i5 4690K
mobo for SLI Asus Z97-A or Asrock Z97 Extreme 4
mobo without SLI : Asrock Z97 Killer

or
CPU Xeon 1231 V3 or i5 4690
mobo Asrock H97 Pro4

That was fast :) Is this going to handle more cpu intensive games? Im still playing skyrim with many mods for example and its very cpu hungry. Is FX 6300 going to last for 1-2 years atleast?

In almost every game your performance would still be limited by your gpu.

Im having a great performance with that card. I could hold a steady 60 fps on games like Farcry 3 , Tomb Raider , Witcher 2 but on games like Skyrim that is eating my cpu im having crazy drops.

The original Skyrim is single threaded , search the web and find how to force it to use 4 and more cores . For R9 270 , getting FX 8320E is not worth .Intel would be a great change but in the future

You should still be getting decent performance in skyrim, of course it's another matter entirely if it's heavily modded, because that can tank even the mightiest of systems.

You might gain some 10 fps with an upgrade, personally I don't think it's worth it.

Yeah I recommend you save up until you can afford a bigger jump in performance.

Dont get me wrong im getting nice and smooth gameplay at 60 fps with some crazy drops on some cities or areas that loads many things, and i found those ini tweaks to make it use all 4 cores but they dont seem to work for me.
Anyway Skyrim is not my issue here and i thought that getting a cpu like FX 8320 would be a nice upgrade but i will take your word and save my money till i can get an intel one, although that probably means a whole new pc 😛

Actually just the motherboard and cpu would be enough. You didn't specify the rest of your specs but you wouldn't need to upgrade your ram as long as you have at least 6-8gb and there wouldn't be an increase in power consumption either.

Phenom ii x4 965 BE
Asus R9 270
GA-970A-D3
RAM Corsair XMS3 8GB Dual Channel DDR3
XFX Ts Series 550W psu
Thats my current system and i was hopping i could really improve performance with a new cpu.
Just out of curiocity if i was to switch to Intel what kind of cpu - mobo i could get on a 250euro (310 USD) budget to consider it a real improvement?

I think Intel is overpriced in my country since all those cpu's you mentioned cost 200-230 euro alone and that leaves no room for a motherboard on that budget. So i have to aim on higher budget if i waht to switch to intel.
But honestly will i get much better perforamce by spending 300-350 euro for intel and new motherboard instead of getting a better AMD cpu on less than half that money?

FX 8320 will do the trick
mobo
http://pcpartpicker.com/part/gigabyte-motherboard-ga990fxaud3

but Intel is better , check
Intel Core i5 4590
mobo Asrock H97 Pro4 or Asus H97 Plus

The xeon should be around 230 euro, with a decent mobo the total would be about 300 euro, yea it's a bit over budget, but it will blow away anything amd has to offer.
Amd cpus are on the verge of bottlenecking the more powerful gpus as it is, so if you would be looking for anything more long term than a couple of years, you would have to choose intel.

You are right Intel is better, unless you are on a short budget (like me) and in that case you stick with AMD.
I will follow your advise and keep my current Phenom and save for i5 4690k and Asus Z97-A. A friend has this cpu and i know its great. I was just hoping i could treat my self with a nice upgrade for x-mass but i think its better to wait :)

Hehe i think you are probably right.I seen how fast they are i just dont know if and how they can improve gaming. You see i just use my pc for gaming and movies so if its something that wont improve those things i dont really need it.
