I am trying to find a budget (<$50) USB wifi adapter to connect my daughter's PC (8-yr old Dell Precision T3500, Windows 7 64-bit, 8GB RAM, several USB 2.0 ports, *no* USB 3.0) to my Netgear wifi router. The router is in my basement home office, and my daughter's room is in the 2nd floor. I have been using a 7-yr old Belkin USB adapter, which used to work good enough before, but not doing so well nowadays. After some research, I am down to two choices: Netgear AC1200 USB 3.0 ($46 at Amazon) and Edimax AC1750 USB 3.0 ($34 at Amazon). Both come with small antennas, which I am told helps boost wifi power, and both have good customer reviews on Amazon. Can someone suggest which one I should use, or if there is a better choice elsewhere?

Thanks.

That computer only has USB 2.0. It won't get full speed from AC1200 adapters. If you want full speed you'll need to add a USB 3.0 card. Be sure to plug in the SATA power.

Five Port with USB Type C for newer devices: https://www.amazon.com/Mailiya-Express-Connector-Controller-Internal/dp/B01MQ5R7I1

This BrosTrend AC1200 gets good customer reviews and has dual large antennae.

The Netis WF2190 is another good option.
