[SOLVED] Good wireless connection on laptop but horrible on pc

My pc has a cheap external wifi receiver. I still got around 40-50 mbps upload and download which was enough to get me through thr day no problem. Now suddenly I am lucky to get 3 mbps download and 1 mbps upload. My laptop gets around 185 mbps download and upload. Everything was fine about 4 hours ago

Buying cheap can often have consequences.

May be you need to spend a little more on a quality brand WiFi adapter? (eg Netgear, TP-Link etc)

Please do the following:

Go to device manager and find your network adapter
(in your case the "cheap external wifi receiver " you mentioned)
Right click to deinstall

it should give you the option to discard the driver
Do not tick the checkbox, we'll want to keep the driver

Once the device is deinstalled (is almost instantly)
Go to action, scan for hardware changes

The network adapter will pop up again in device manager

Reboot your pc

check your speeds

if this does not help, restart your router
