Google Chrome suddenly eating all my memory!

I'm having a weird issue that started yesterday where I'll get a little pop-up that tells me that my memory is running low and that I should close some programs. This is weird for me, as I usually have the same programs open and, on occasion, have another program or two open as well.

So I checked task manager, where Chrome was taking up over 400MB. Again, this is weird. At busy times, I have - at most - 15 tabs open, but the past few days, I have about 6 open at once. I also checked extensions and the only ones I have running is restart chrome, adblock, and xkit for tumblr.

I have a terrible memory, but I believe that this issue started happening right after I updated my computer (It's running Windows 8).

My RAM is technically 8GB, I've restarted my computer, I scanned for viruses and cleaned out my computer a little. I'm not sure what the problem could be D:

Tomorrow, I will check for a memory leak by reinstalling Chrome and seeing if that works out.

Any other suggestions would be 100% welcomed! And I'll be glad to give any extra information needed.
Thanks!

you can try reinstalling chrome or

right click the start menu go to system

then on the top left go to advanced system setting

click on the advanced tab then perfomance settings

then advanced

then on the bottom click change

and uncheck automatically manage pagging file size for all drives

then check custom size and put the initial size 4gb

and make the maximum size 6gb and click ok

and restart your computer

If you don't mind me asking, what exactly does pagging file size do D: ?

Also, after reinstalling chrome, I realized that's not the problem. Currently, I just have Chrome and Skype open with background processes like my antivirus running. It says that even with just these things running, I have 80% memory being used and all the processes on task manager only adds up to about 800MB.

I ran a virus check and haven't found anything, and my computer still recognizes that I have 8GB of RAM...
This is confusing!

I figured it out! I opened Resource Monitor and checked what was taking the most RAM usage. It turns out it was bitDefender!
I checked around on forums and apparently users of that antivirus program was having the same issue. They uninstalled, either reinstalled or installed a different anti-virus and the memory went down.

My memory depleted 60% after uninstalling.
