Google Chrome suddenly stopped working?

Hi,
I booted up my computer today and tried to load chrome but nothing happened.. at all.
I watched a quick video telling me to go into the properties of my chrome shortcut and put -no-sandbox at the end of the target.
It worked, but can someone explain this to me?

The "Sandbox" is a security feature that's included in Google Chrome to protect you when you surf the web.
But sometimes this feature has to be disabled using the -no-sandbox switch to avoid problems with some types of online security software.
