Question Google Earth installed itself?

It looks like Google Earth installed itself, because I'm sure nobody else did it and never gave permission to install it, but suddenly its icon appeared on desktop.
is google really that intrusive? What can be done to prevent google from doing things like that?

Have you recently installed any other software or updated some app or utility?

Possibly came from a pre-selected "install" box that was hidden or otherwise not immediately noticeable.

Default being to install Google Earth.

It can't "install itself".

Almost certainly it came as an addon of something else, as noted above.
