Google Glass Banned from Seattle Bar; Dev Kit Hits eBay

Hmm...they wouldn't be allowed in my office nor are any cameras or camera phones. A bar seems a little off the deep end, but privacy is a problem with any form of cameras. I'd love to see anyone be allowed in a Republican fundraiser or event. ;)

"100% positive feedback" on ebay just means there weren't any people willing to break the usually unspoken deal "You rate me 5 stars and I'll rate you 5 stars in return".

It is only a matter of time before all bluetooths have cameras built in. There are already some but the day is coming when we record most of our day and the people in it. Look out marriage google glass is the new deal breaker!

Why is this a story? They are already banned in every classroom (since they have a camera) in our state (due to certain laws), both K-12 and Universities, and our specific university is now discussing banning them anywhere on campus. Google knew this would be the case, surely they're not surprised.

It's a story because someone is trying to sell a "development kit".... Things like this get banned in K-12 schools due to child privacy and safety, which is a major concern in most schools. Once a release date is announced, I'll be petitioning my local school board to issue a ban on these as well, if it hasn't been done already.

Sorry for the double post. Not sure what happened there. Anyway, I encourage you to do so. I'll be doing exactly the same thing.

So let me get this straight. This thing is not out, but it's likely going to banned from schools and universities. We now have a bar that won't allow it, and most likely restaurants will follow suit. I also can't see it being allowed anywhere near cinemas or casinos. You stand behind a guy at an ATM with one of these and you might get accused of skimming. Certainly anyone who forgets to take these of when they arrive at the changing rooms in their gym are going to end up in a lot of trouble.
So you pay $1,500 for this thing and then after you have to ask yourself, so where can I actually safely wear it?!

Desperate bar in need of PR, owner has a brilliant idea to get word of mouth.

In any case, the owner is actively encouraging violence against perpetrators, which is a big no-no in my book.

Any bar that advocates "ass kickings" for someone violating a rule isn't the kind of place i'd ever go to relax.

I fully respect his rights to set out rules for his business, but threats of violence are a bit much - while drunk people can get a bit unruly or out of hand, I don't think this is going to happen with the clientele that can buy $1500 glasses.

Every phone out there has a camera nowadays. One can easily pretend he/she is dialing a number while actually taking photos. It's been done before, and yet there are NOT that many instances out there where these cameras were ubiquitously used against local rules.
Point is, there will be some changes in the final product that will allow one to easily tell whether or not the camera is ON. People are making too much out of this.

Great Now I will always know how much life and armor I have left.

I certainly wouldn't pay $1,500 for a pair of those but I could see wealthy stock investors that couldn't possibly go to lunch without them so they can always keep an eye on stock prices.

I'm STILL confused as to why the bar is SUDDENLY upset.

"The camera obscura, the first instrument incorporating the essentials of a camera (an opening in a dark box with the ability to focus the light coming through it) was invented by the Iraqi scientist Ibn al-Haytham (Alhazen) in the 11th Century. The first camera small enough to be portable was built by Johann Zahn in 1685. " http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_old_is_the_camera

There are glasses with hidden cameras available on the market for years. Are there any bans against those? Bans against phones and tablets that contain cameras? This is so idiotic and as someone else mentions, it is probably just a PR stunt for a cafe that wanted cheap advertisement. If they were serious about privacy, they would be confiscating every single device that a person could sneak in that is capable of taking pictures, even pens have cameras built-in that is even capable of taking some nice avi video clips.
