On the Google search home page using Internet Explorer 11, the Google logo is in plain text with no color and there is a black x in a box to the left of it. The black x is also on top of some graphics and pictures. Java is up to date. Any thoughts. Thanks.

It's none of those three. The computer is clean. I've tried it on several different networks. And disk space is about 80% free. The only thing I can think of is that something happened during a Windows update or when I ran CCleaner.

I had a customer laptop just come in yesterday with this Internet Explorer 11 issue on a Sony Vaio laptop running Windows 8.1 x64. Complaint was her IE 11 browser would freeze ... unable to surf. Laptop has Avast Free AV set to daily quick scan, and Malwarebytes Premium set to daily scan. First thing I did was flush temp files & cookies and full reset the browser and then it would surf fine everywhere! Mission accomplished! Or so I thought. It was fine everywhere except the Google home page. The center google logo (just above the search box) was missing and there was just a small black box with an "x" and the text "google"

So I performed a boot time scan with Avast (nothing) and a scan with Malwarebytes, adwCleaner, and JRT (nothing found). I ran the system file checker (sfc /scannow) and it came back with no issues. Then I found the Windows 8.1 procedure to uninstall Internet Explorer 11, reboot PC, and then reinstall IE 11 and performed that procedure and still a black x. So now I create a new administrative user profile and switch over to it ... same thing! Still no Google logo ... wtf? Is this a data backup and Windows reload to fix it? Really? So before I go to this extreme I downloaded Firefox and Chrome and they both work fine on the Google homepage.

So there I am at midnight last night pondering what to do. I'm fiddling while I'm looking around on the Google homepage. I right-click on the black x and select "copy" and open MS Paint and try to paste and it gets an error saying something about cannot paste that type of content. Whatever. So I keep trying to copy and paste to see if the logo goes into the MS Paint program. Then I right-click on the black x and choose "select all" and the entire page gets highlighted and I choose "copy" and try to paste into MS Paint and it still gets the error. Then I right-click and choose "select all" and then I right-click on the Google logo area and see an option for "Show Picture" and I choose that AND VOILA! The Google logo is now displayed!!!! DoubleU Tee Eff?

So I am still in the newly created user test account I created ... so I log out and log in to the customer's normal user account and IE11 is still showing the tiny black x where the google logo should be. So I do the same thing there and **poof** it now works!

So that solved this problem. BTW I could not find anything on the Internet regarding this issue except this forum.
