While human experts learn, and many learn fast, the pace of learning of a machine is orders of magnitude higher.

The main benefit of machine optimization is that it can simultaneously account for more parameters than humans. Where humans need to rely on crutches like heuristics, an AI can apply a far larger dictionary of patterns and rules to produce more optimal output.

According to Google, researchers are also exploring how AlphaChip's approach could be applied to even further stages of chip development.

I'm still waiting to see a C compiler that uses AI for code optimization. Much like chip design, the existing compilers rely on heuristics to decide which optimizations to apply in what circumstances. It seems like AI, especially using PGO, could be a big win, here.

Something like that would actually motivate me to buy a CPU that featured a decent NPU!
