Got a new SSD, how should I transfer my data to it?

I'm getting a new SSD tomorrow (Micron RealSSD C400, it's an old but unopened model). What I need to know is should I attempt to clone my drive to it, or just back up my files to an external drive and do a fresh Windows 8.1 install? My concern for this method is that if I try to use my windows key that I'm currently using to install/activate the OS on my SSD, what will happen? Like, will it deny it because I'm already using it (even though I'm gonna wipe my current drive after the switch)?

Or I could just back up and then delete my data until everything will fit in the SSD, but I don't want to deal with the whole mess of aligning data, finding a decent program to actually transfer everything, etc. So what would you guys do in my situation?

i would just clone it.you shouldnt have any problem with activation at all.
