I´ve been using for about 7 years this system I ( self-taught ) built :

Motherboard MSI FM2-A75MA-E35 (MS-7721)
AMD Athlon(tm) X4 760K Quad Core Processor
16Gb memory (x2 8Gb DDR3-1600)
My graphic card is a fanless NVIDIA GT 710 4Gb low profile, which I use with two screens.
A 120gb SSD card for Windows and programs, and a 2Tb HHD for data

So, pretty much a basic home office PC. I don´t play games. Just use it for web browsing and some DTP homework.
System has been stable but sometimes ( rarely ) it powers off, maybe due to age as I never replaced the PSU but can also be due to overheating
because happens mostly during summertime ( that means 30ºC in my sunny area ).

Then I got absolutely for free 2 ( yes, two ) PC cases, both with ASROCK FM2A78M-DG3+ motherboards.
One has a AMD A8-7650k, and the other a AMD A8-6600k.
Only one 4gb DDR3 ram stick was available so I tried and both work and managed to acces the BIOS, while didn´t have any boot disk to make a complete check.

What I want to know is, has all that stuff was absolutely free, if it´s worth to use some of the components in my current PC, besides the cases that are in way better condition than mine?
Will it worth to put one of those A8-series CPU in my old motherboard as it seems my Athlon and the A8 6600k are pretty much the same thing ( being the 7650k slower?) ?
Or will it be better to swap also the motherboard, and then reinstall Windows again?

So, is it worth the time and all hassle or should I just forget about it and store whatever may be usable as a backup/emergency hardware in my
allready tiny space?

Thanks a lot

The A8 7650K is hardly an upgrade from your current system. If you want the benefit of a new system, you should save your time and energy until you can get ahold of much newer and faster hardware; you will see little to no benefit upgrading. The 7650K is only two years newer than the Athlon X4 760 (releasing in 2015), and draws less power with a lower boost clock. Hope this helped, take care.

Thanks, how about the A8 6600K?

Any performance differences are minimal.
Passmark performance info:
X4-760K has 4 threads, a total rating of 2948 and a single thread rating of 1527.
A8-7650K also has 4 threads and a rating of 3101/1393
A8-6600K 4 threads and 3003/1535

Stick with the 760K and avoid any bios incompatibilities and other such nuisances. If anything, the better single thread performance will show up in normal desktop performance.

Such processors may sell for $15 on ebay.
