Got no output from my motherboard at all, please help

Hello,

A few weeks ago my usb-ports and internet port stopped working suddenly, i solved this by using a usbhub connect to the front usb ports and i had to reinstall my internetport driver each time i started my pc.

Now since yesterday it became worse, now all the ports of my motherboard seem to stopped working, my front usbports are also down and even worse .. my dvi ports also stopped working so i can't even login to my pc anymore.

I tried resetting cmos by unplugging powercord and removing the battery ... but still nothing works ,i also tried resetting with the jumpers but also that didn't work Thx to this i'm in real bad situation as i need my files for school on this PC.

I would be so happy if my problem could be solved here.

what do you mean with my pc posting?

I don't see anything on my screen as it desn't connect to it at all, but i still hear the recognized sounds my hdd makes so i think it does start, just can't see it.

Assuming that nothing is working, it is time to do some serious troubleshooting.

I mean work through, not just read over it. We spent a lot of time on this. It should find most of the problems.

If not, continue.

I have tested the following beeps patterns on Gigabyte, eVGA, and ECS motherboards. Other BIOS' may be different.

Breadboard - that will help isolate any kind of case problem you might have.

Breadboard with just motherboard, CPU & HSF, case speaker, and PSU. You do have a case speaker installed, right? If not, you really, really need one. If your case or motherboard didn't come with a system speaker, you can buy one here:

You can turn on the PC by momentarily shorting the two pins that the case power switch goes to. You should hear a series of long, single beeps indicating memory problems. Silence indicates a problem with (in most likely order) the PSU, motherboard, or CPU.

Remember, at this time, you do not have a graphics card installed so the load on your PSU will be reduced.

If no beeps:
At this point, you can sort of check the PSU. Try to borrow a known good PSU of around 550 - 600 watts. That will power just about any system with a single GPU. If you cannot do that, use a DMM to measure the voltages. Measure between the colored wires and either chassis ground or the black wires. Yellow wires should be 12 volts. Red wires: +5 volts, orange wires: +3.3 volts, blue wire : -12 volts, violet wire: 5 volts always on. Tolerances are +/- 5% except for the -12 volts which is +/- 10%.

The gray wire is really important. It should go from 0 to +5 volts when you turn the PSU on with the case switch. CPU needs this signal to boot.

You can turn on the PSU by completely disconnecting the PSU and using a paperclip or jumper wire to short the green wire to one of the neighboring black wires.

This checks the PSU under no load conditions, so it is not completely reliable. But if it can not pass this, it is dead. Then repeat the checks with the PSU plugged into the computer to put a load on the PSU.

If the system beeps:
If it looks like the PSU is good, install a memory stick. Boot. Beep pattern should change to one long and several short beeps indicating a missing graphics card. Silence or long single beeps indicate a problem with the memory.

Insert the video card and connect any necessary PCIe power connectors. Boot. At this point, the system should POST successfully (a single short beep). Notice that you do not need keyboard, mouse, monitor, or drives to successfully POST.

Now start connecting the rest of the devices starting with the monitor, then keyboard and mouse, then the rest of the devices, testing after each step. It's possible that you can pass the POST with a defective video card. The POST routines can only check the video interface. It cannot check the internal parts of the video card.

Sadly enough it didn't help me, i check the first guide, everyhting was ok (also since my pc has been working for 1.5 year now)

I don't have a speaker, but could it be its somewhere onboard on my motherboard?
I don't get any beeps when i start my pc, it makes its 'familiar' sounds.

I tried resetting cmos again but didn't help anything, my pc really sounds like its ok, it just doesn't connect to my monitor (tried both of my monitors) and the motherboard doesn't do anything with my usb ports either (i tried every port with my ipod to check if i would charge but it didn't), my ethernet port seems to be working though.

I really need to get out of this situation, i need my school stuff, can't afford to loose this.

hey malmental,

i always used 2 hdd, so i should give it a try with 1 hdd 1 ram and optical drive.

Gonna test it right away, is there any possibilty i'll get out of this without buying new mobo/psu?

ok tested with only 1 ram, no gpu(don't have onboard either) and i don't get any beeps, is this good or bad?

I don't have a speaker though but it should make a noise anyway right?

I didn't even ever overclock anything to avoid this ...

Btw i tried my psu on another PC, its an old PC and i didn't wor, pus started and the lights of the psu worked but the motherboard didn't react at all.

Could this be because its an old pc and a quite new psu or should it have to do with my problem?

Problem is i don't have another psu that can feed my whole computer, it misses the parts for my gpu so i wouldn't be able to see if it works or not :s

just 1 problem i ran into, the old psu has only 4pin for the processor and my processor needs 6pins :s

just realized that the cpu power has to be 8pin :s, also the motherboard power of the old psu is only 20pin and i need 20+4 pin.

Anyway this could work anyhow? or should it damage my pc?

Yea had problems with my computer before that took longer then a day to solve, just there were more clues, i had a message on my screen and stuff now its just nothing ...

I really hope its my psu that's broken as this wil be a lower cost to buy a new one.

Hey,

Friend couldn't yet come by now ...
But i just noticed something different, my GPU seems to be not working (fan doesn't rotate).

I have read on the website of the shop where i bought my pc parts that a common issue is with Asrock motherboards (mine is) after you reset the bios you get no screen (which i had before i resetted bios but also at this moment), they say the solution is to try a start with a agp or pci videocard, sadly enough i don't have any ... so again i hope ly friend can come todayand take a card if he has one.

So maybe my gpu isn't working anymore thx to resetting the bios?
Really strange things if you ask me though ...

1. usb ports not working
2. psu not working on a different computer
3. gpu stopped working
...

I really need that friend to come so i can exclude some of the problems and find out what is causing this :s

I got a little father now,

Seems the my psu was the problem, i now have screen using another psu, but from the moment 'starting windows' appears, my kb/mouse (usbports) stop working, i can get into bios and use my kb and mouse, everyhting in bios seems to be normal as far as i know.

any ideas?
