Got the case....Now need parts

Hi all, Just got my sparkling brand new cooler Master Haf 922 case. It's a beauty.Bigger than I thought it would be. I am going to do some small mods to it. So far strongly recommend it.


APPROXIMATE PURCHASE DATE: Next 2 to 3 months.Price range $500 to $600 maybe more if I buy some each month.

SYSTEM USAGE FROM MOST TO LEAST IMPORTANT:Gamming,Internet
PARTS NOT REQUIRED: Monitor,keyboard,mouse,spekers>I have a Gforce 8800 gtx and a DVD/CD RW and a Sound Blaster FI sound card that I can use in it.If the parts from a Dell computer will be compatible. If I use the GPU I will need to get another one not as powerfull to replace it with.OS I have XP .
PREFERRED WEBSITE(S) Newegg Tiger direct,and any reliable stores. Texas USA

PARTS PREFERENCES: .My first build,if everything works out the MB and CPU and GPU will be used in another PC later next year.
OVERCLOCKING: OC yes,SLI cross NO.
MONITOR RESOLUTION: 1024x768
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS:This is my first build. Will most likley rebuild in 2010 if all go's as plan.Will add 2 more 120mm fans (side). Don't mind if parts are AMD or Intel. Prefer a MB that can be upgaded. I have window xp 32 bit,not for sure if it's even recomended to use. Don't like Vista. Don't know anything about Windows 7. I see a lot od AMD cpus being recomended.

I wouldn't buy a new slower card to replace that 8800 gtx. I would buy a new faster card for you new computer like GTS 250 or GTX 260 or ATI 5770 or ATI 5850. But if you want one to replace it, GT 240 or GT 210 or GT 220 are all the new low end ones from nVidia.

Since your budget is small I'd get an AMD Athlon X4 620 or 630. The AM3 motherboards are still pretty new so they'll be around for a while.

That PSU is overkill, but has a great MIR now so it's definitely the most bang for the buck. The 5750 should kick-arse at that resolution.

Thanks for your replies. I have decided to spend a little more and try to get better performance. Max to spend on CPU and MB $400 maybe with a good heatsink cooler added.

Just a few questions to finalize this. The GPU seems not to exsaust to the outside,would this be a heating problem.

I decided to get a new DVD/CD RW. Can someone recomend one.

The HD I picked out is a little more exspensive,but had more cache. Will this mean its faster.

Anything else I need cables ect....

I will get some thermal paste

One last thing. how about a better heatsink/fan

In theory, greater cache size means greater performance, in practice the gains aren't really all that substantial. Hard drive performance is more predicated on speed (7200 RPM is the gold standard these days). That Western Digital is a decent drive, though I would strongly consider the Samsung Spinpoint F3 500 GB as this has shown impressive benchmarks ($55). NewEgg is out of stock at the moment, but you should be able to find it from another retailer.

In regards to a cooler, the stock cooler that comes with your AMD should be enough to allow some overclocking, but it will run hotter and be louder. Two solid choices are the Hyper 212 Plus and the CoGage True Spirit, just make sure you can find an AM3 mounting bracket.

Those spinpoint drives seem about as hard as a 5870 to find at the moment. iam not sure why they have seemingly disappeared. Hopefully they will return soon.
