Gotcha!

Hi!

I think some of you have already playes with this new fun edition unhinged.

As you know there are some cards with Gotcha effects.

So if a player says a specific word you can return this card from the
graveyard to your hand.
For example: Gotcha "damage" whenever aplayer says "damage" return this card
to your hand.

But what about languages ? We play here most times with english cards even
if english isn't our primary language.
So does this effect trigger when someone says this word in an other language
?

I'd have to say, following the principles outlined in the Unhinged FAQTIWDAWCC,
that words in another language are not homophones, are not homonyms spelled the
same way, are not Homarids... but count as homographs: technically you're
pronouncing the English word in another language. (Yes, that's not a good
general principle, but for Magic in particular all cards are "in English at
the base level" due to interpreting them through the English version of Oracle,
so here it works.)

So yes, it triggers.

Atinglay Igpay? Or some funky Japanese promo?

There's no g in Atinlay, and this is probably not the card Dave was
thinking of (but good catch!). I'm certain it was the "funky Japanese
promo" comedy option.

If this is Shifukichin Dragon, it's got an English Oracle-type translation,
though I'm not sure it's in the actual Oracle. No, Igpay Atinlay was the one.

No, I'm thinking here of ... hmmm, it's _not_ a rule. How odd. ... Oh, okay,
it's 200.2, though it doesn't specify "English Oracle" - but Oracle only exists
in English as far as I know. Essentially, to find out what a card in another
language says, you use the Oracle version, which by default is English -
except for Atinlay Igpay. (And Shichifukijin Dragon isn't in Oracle at all,
so given that it would qualify too - except that neither are Splendid
Genesis and Richard's other cards, the Duelist Invitational cards, etc., but
there are English Oracle-izations of them available various places.)
