The most likely cause for the GPF is a problem during setup when Windows encounters a peripheral or a card that needs a specific driver not listed in the Win9x database, OR ... when Windows finds that peripheral/card, it has difficulty assigning an IRQ address that doesn't conflict with yet another peripheral/card.
My advice ... take everything out the computer before attempting to reinstall Windows, except the things that are specifically needed (i.e. the hard drive, the processor, the memory and the video card.)
If after this, you are able to install Windows with no conflicts, then obtain the newest drivers for any other hardware that is remaining, and install each additional card or peripheral, one at a time. This will help you locate the troublesome device ... and perhaps make it easier for you to manually change an IRQ address (if necessary.)
If this doesn't work, please make a complete list of all your hardware, including the mainboard, processor, operating system, and a detailed description of the error message(s). Post it, and one of us on this forum will surely locate the problem. Or at least, help you rule out what the problem 'isn't'. That can sometimes be as helpful as a "fix".
Good luck ... Toejam31
