gpu: gtx 960 geforce edition

i was recently playin rainbow six siege and i bymistake on msi afterburner put the fan speed on the lowest possible. I found out my gpu was getting very hot when i looked and the temp and it was at 96 degrees. so i quickly shut down rainbow and blasted the fan speed up to cool it down. i checked online and the max temp this gpu can face is 98 degrees and mine was at 96. a company is doing an rma on the gpu over a rattling sound in the fan but im worried that they will void the warranty as it may be damaged by heating.

Not necessarily.
A GPU can run perfectly fine until it hits its max temperature, meaning that potentially the card could have been running at 96 degrees for say two hours or longer without OP noticing it, which would have caused a decent amount of stress on the GPU, potentially damaging it due to exposure to high temperatures, even if not for extended periods of time.
Typically over 80c is when the silicon chip starts to struggle.

it was overclocked btw and i do have the temp protection thing enabled where it will shut down the pc if it gets too hot, sorry i was just getting a little bit scared as i am sending it to zoostorm to rma it tommorow, thx guys appreciate it, wish i could pick all of you as a solution 😉
