GPU acting weird . Please help!!

I own a gtx 1070 paired with an i5 4590.

After booting up my pc everything is fine. But after 5-10 mins of gameplay gpu clock goes down to 540hz and fps dips down to 20-30fps. .

it remains like that until I restart and happens again. Please help .

What I've already done:

1. Reinstalling driver
2. Installing previous driver
3. Reinstalling win 10
4. Running a virus scan (win def)
5. Switch on performance mode both on win control panel and nvidia control panel. (This brings the you clock up and fps still goes down after 5 - 10mins)

To be noted : all other hardware work as they should. Only the gpu is acting weird.

You have been very thorough. Two more things to try:

1. Check that your PS has more than recommended wattage- A 80 plus rated is advised. If yours is a cheap one - replace. (Suggestion- EVGA 600 Watt 80 plus - is one of the lowest cost and we find good reliability)

2. Use the install disc that came with your card. Select CUSTOM install and eliminate any previous drivers.
(The latest drivers killed my frame rates on my GTX 1080 SLI- I had to go back TWO to get them back up where they were. I am still running old drivers hoping this will be resolved)

If those final steps don't get your issue resolved, you will need to contact the BRAND maker of your card and arrange a replacement. One to Three weeks.
