got a 1060 and it barely fits in my case with barely enough room, but won't crush any other components, and has very small but enough room where it's not in direct contact with the bays or anything else. just worried would it get too hot?

Is there some reason why when you first installed it you didn't stress test it? That way you can watch the temps and see how high they will go under a worst case scenario. You might be worrying for nothing. On the other hand, if they do get too high, then you'll have a baseline to judge any further cooling attempts by.

looks like no fans in the front of the case to blow air in?

mod the side of the case and add a fan blowing in air right next to the gpu

If necessary, consider a blower fan in the rear expansion slot to extract any hot air. Sufficient hot air extraction is your first priority vs. adding any fans at the front. That can come later if needs be.

I recently used one of these see (below) to great effect in an old cramped case that wasn't designed to cope with modern graphics cards - it was from 2002!

This Antec one is recommend as it is much quieter (selectable fan speeds) than many others (which run at full speed) that can be too noisy.

in terms of fit your fine, either it fits or it doesnt. but air flow is another thing, and you case is lacking in that department. but you should be ok, the 1060 isnt the hottest card and msi's is a good cooler. play some games and watch the temps.

I haven't yet, I have ordered an adapter for 6 to 8 pin, since silly me didn't read it requiring 8 pin. When I get it, I will stress test it and see how it goes.

dont get an single 6-pin to 8-pin adapter

8-pin is rated for twice the wattage of a 6-pin
most such adapters are crap

that is asking for something to go up in flames

you may use an TWO 6-pin to single 8-pin adapter if your psu is good and has two 6-pin pcie cables

if not, then it is time for a new psu
