I don't believe there's any single brand to avoid outright. They've all had their share of mistakes, smash hits, and so-sos.
No one's perfect.
Try to find an independent review of a particular product you're interested in.
Plus, if possible, try to avoid the models in the lowest product tiers of any brand - basically the cheapest ones; you're less likely to have issues with it.
Those appear to be #1 - at least in the US...
