I currently have a Corsair Carbide 400r with a max gpu clearence of 318mm. I have ordered an MSI 1080ti DUKE that measures a whopping 320mm. I did not check the case clearance before ordering this card, my bad! and I dont think i can return it either stating this reason. I was wondering whether I can somehow squeeze the card inside the case even though it might be too close to the hdd cage?. If not I would have to change my case.

Solution
Tip of the PCIe bracket? I'm sure the cards are measured from the face of the bracket or back end of the case, not the tip/lip of the bracket.
You might get lucky and the slightly curved shroud on the card will fit inside the drive cage instead of hitting it. You won't know until you try it. Then there's the cables to get connected...

Measure the space the case actually has from expansion slot cover to the drive cage. Sometimes they allow a bit in their dimensions. You'll need 12.6" according to the specs.

That is what I was hoping for too as I measured the length from the tip of the pcie bracket to the hard drive bays, seems like there is a wiggle room of 5mm end to end. It would be too close for comfort but I am hoping if I can atleast get the card down the top there will be more room at the bottom as the hard drive bay is recessed as it goes down.

You mean the end of the bent portion on the pcie bracket on the card which latches with the case to the other end of the card?, if so i think i can get it down the throat of the case where there is the least length. Once i can gt it in i think i can easily slot it in as the hard drive bay gets recessed as it goes further down. If it does not, i might have to try to get the card inside at an angle and then hope to slot it..
