Yes, it's factory OC'ed, but I meant did you have your own OC on it, which I guess not. Thanks for clearing that up.

Drivers etc up to date? Try a clean install. First use DDU to uninstall your current driver. Then download the latest Nvidia driver for your GPU, and do a custom install , choosing clean install. Deselect to install Geforce Experience.

Let us know how that goes.
Hey there,

Does this happen when even sitting at desktop and normal tasks? It should be downclocking to save power when full performance isn't required.

Have you changed any settings in the Nvidia control panel? Reset that to default, update your GPU drivers, system drivers etc and see if that helps.

Are you overclocking the card? If so, try at stock, see what happens.

The card version is already overclocked i bought the gtx 1660 OC 6gb from gigabyte around a year and a few months ago and yeah it's almost always like that. i had set the settings in nvidia control panel to prefer maximum performance but now i tried to set it to optimal power and nope still same thing.

Okay so i tried to try something out of the blue and it seemingly worked ? i just sit it to optimal power in the power management mode and now the idle temp doesn't go over 45C (Was 50-51 before) and the gpu is much more cooler (When playing games with V-sync a.k.a AC oddyesey and such the temps don't go over 74 in cyberpunk and such) but if i turn the V-sync off it can reach up to 77C or 80C. are these temps okay to go with ?

Yes, that's definitely, an improvement, and roughly where temps should be with your GPU at full load. modern GPU's can run up to mid 80's without issue.
I was playing fortnite max settings the other day on 120Fps full load and it reached 84C..is that still safe?? It didnt throttle or lat or anything it was fine

Hi, A bit late to the party. But Nvidia control panel is the problem.

When set to "Prefer Maximum Performance" it will run the clocks at full speed.

Took me awhile to figure it out, but setting it back to "Optimal Power" and restarting solved it.
