GPU compatibility between HD 7970 & R9 290x

In the moment, I have one XFX AMD HD7970. I am thinking to buy one more GPU, which is AMD R9 290x. Do you guys think they will support with each other?

No, they are not compatible But you can use the R9 280 X though.
