[SOLVED] GPU Connectors ?

Been using the RX580 GPU for a month now and really happy with it.
Plays all my games at 1080p with no problem including Forza and CS GO

Did some youtubing and saw some GPUs have 2 connector ports, wheras mine only has one. Why is this ?

Power requirements. More powerful GPU's need more power so they will often use an extra 6pin or 8pin power connector, some actually have 3.

If you are asking why some RX 580s have two pcie power connectors, some higher end RX 580s use them mainly just to give people a little extra headroom when doing heavy overclocking. It's not needed for the majority of users.

It all depends on the power requirements for a card. Six pin power connectors provide upto an extra 75 watts of power. An eight pin power connector provides up to an additional 150 watts of power. Depending on the power requirements of the card, it may have one or two of either or one of each.

What do you guys think of the RX580 ? It's my first ever expensive GPU and i upgraded to it from the inbuilt Vega 11

On CSGO I get about 250fps which is quite good right ? Even Forza Horizon 4 plays excellent.

These are 2 x 8 pins right ??
Do most GPUs come with 8pin or 16 pin these days ?

The RX 580 is a good GPU for 1080p gaming. It's still good for the money, especially since some go for under $200 nowadays. The GTX 1660 Super seems to be it's closest competition, which does perform better on average but is a bit more expensive.

Those are called 6+2pin pcie power connectors, they can be used in either an 8pin or 6pin power connector on a GPU.

It Depends on the GPU, the model, and vendor of said GPU. I'd say most cards in the RX 580s price range have a single 8pin. My 2070 super for example has an 8pin and a 6pin.

The GTX 1660 super looks good, maybe in a few months i'll upgrade it if im bored lol but for now the RX580 is excellent, i get about 250fps on CS GO on whichever settings it comes with standard.

GPUs which require more than 8 pins im guessing need a very powerful PSU ? Mine is only 500w

I wouldn't go from a 580 to a 1660 super, not worth the money imo. I'd wait for the next round of GPU's from AMD and Nvidia before upgrading from the 580 if I were you.

Yes and no again depends on the GPU and the power requirements of the rest of your components and whether or not you will be overclocking. I run a 2070 super with a 550watt PSU (which is not necessarily recommended) however it is a quality Seasonic G series unit and im yet to have an issue so im not to worried about it. If I had some off brand low quality 550watt psu I wouldn't even consider trying to run a 2070 super with it.

Fair enough dude thanks for the info, when will the next lot be released, 2020 im guessing ?

I checked inside my case and as you can see in the picture I have 2 x 6+2 connectors
However, it looks and feels like it would be impossible to connect both of them unless I bent them to a tight degree, so i'd probably play it safe and just go for the ones which require 8 pin
