Gpu died for some reason, scared to put a new one

Build,Mobo is a b85m-e. Intel i5-4440. PSU evga 750w g2. GTX 970 strix 4g. My ram is all the same. So i was playing a game and after i exited the game i left it on idle and it just turned off and it wouldnt turn back on, eventually i took out the graphic card and it booted up with the igpu. I know my gpu died im waiting on a replacement but im scared something is faulty or what so ever and i dont want to kill another one. Its working fine on the igpu so i think everything should be fine. Oh and i did not do any overclock and did not play with the voltage so im clueless to what could of caused it. Thanks for the help.

It most probably died of natural causes, wouldn't be first or last GPU that died.

Thanks alot appreciate the awnser just wanted to be sure that it wasn't something that could of caused it that i ignored or what so ever.
