GPU displays black screen

GPU displays black screen but boots and powers up fine, and the monitor detects that it's connected but just a black screen, It works fine from the mother board HDMI slot. I've just got no idea why the GPU displays nothing but a black screen. Pc was working fine with GPU installed, I was switching around HDMI cords and then nothing would display

Specs are:
i5-4690k
16gb of ddr3 1866mhz ram
GTX 1060 6gb Gigabyte Xtreme gaming edition
Msi Z97S sli krait edition Mobo
1tb hdd
250gb SSD
EVGA 550 watt GS gold psu

That seems weird... because if you have a graphics card installed the hdmi port is usually disabled on the motherboard, maybe your GPU isn't plugged in. Not sure though.

Sorry I didn't specify that the gpu was removed when I plugged the hdmi into the mobo
