GPU doesn’t fit on first slot of ROG STRIX Z370-E motherboard because of metal piece.

There’s a metal bit preventing the card from snapping in. I’ve got it in the second slot for now, but I’m wondering if there’s any way for me to fix this. It seems like nothing will fit there because of this piece.

This is the card I have. On pcpartpicker it says it's compatible with my mobo. https://au.pcpartpicker.com/product/tJyxFT/evga-geforce-gtx-1060-6gb-sc-gaming-video-card-06g-p4-6163-kr

*edit* added photos of the metal piece

I have the same issue on the Z370 and it is only some GPU models that wont fit. It is the M.2 Heatsink that gets in the way on some GPU models so simply go ahead and use the second slot at x8 as the difference in FPS and performance is next to nothing according to a number of benchmarks i have seen (1-3 FPS difference). Video below shows the difference. If your using the second PCIe slot it's x8, top slot is x16. Hoping my 2080 about to arrive fits in top slot !!!

I've tried that. The problem is that I cant snap the gpu into the slot because that metal piece is too high and its hitting up against the back tab of the gpu.

Here's another angle:

you can see the marks where the card rubs against it

I understand this but through out all of your photos, i can see the back aero slots of your case mounted. The first two aero slots that are above the guard should be off, but better try to remove them all. Mount the gpu starting from the rear so that the connectors of the gpu are fully outside of the case. You take a diagonal mount, not vertical. Sorry, i am not underestimating your sense, trying to make sure you ve done it right

When I tried to put the gpu in the first time I took off the necessary plates. It didn't fit. I've since put them back on and only took off that one plate to show how the piece is jutting out. I understand you're trying to help and I do appreciate it.

That's what i'm using atm. Just found it frustrating that it doesn't fit the first one.

Was thinking about trying that but was seeing if there were alternatives as I don't really feel comfortable doing it. Maybe if I get another card and it doesn't fit i'll try. I just don't how any card would fit because it seems like they all have that tab on the end blocking it.I feel like i'm going insane bc no one else has this problem and i've seen a video where someone installs a card on this slot no problem.
