Once it has happened once, no amount of restarts will fix it, and I need to uninstall and reinstall my graphics drivers, which fix the problem from anywhere between a few hours to a few weeks. My gpu is an AMD 6870X2, and I have tried driver version 12, 13, and 14

Solution
have you treid going with the generic driver install of the properity driver? It might work better for stablity since the AMD driver is crashing for you.
