GPU fails after driver installation

Hi guys, I recently got an used GTX 780 (http://www.gigabyte.com.au/Graphics-Card/GV-N780OC-3GD-rev-20#sp) from a friend of mine. It was working in his PC.

When I plug it in, it is detected by Device manager and works perfectly fine with the default/inbuilt windows VGA drivers. It however fails after driver installation.

I tried installing the drivers by 2 methods:

1. Installing drivers from NVIDIA download page(manual download and install)
Result: Installation starts normally, but mid-way the display goes black/monitors go idle and the GPU fan spins at 100%. It stays like this until i manually restart the PC. After reboot, the display goes gray-scale with reduced resolution and I get the error message "Display Driver failed to start". However, the PC doesn't restart (stable) nor the display goes black/turn-off.

2. Windows update (automatic driver installation via device manager)
Result: Windows boots up, i can see the welcome screen and the desktop. But after 2-3 secs the screen goes black, the monitor(s) go to idle/stand-by. The system is running normal (not crashing) with no display (I can hear windows sounds, etc.).

I have tried almost all the solutions suggested in multiple forum posts on the internet. Everytime i try to reinstall drivers, I always use DDU to clean the previous installation.

Any help is highly appreciated. If I missed any info, please let me know.

My PC specs are:
i7 3770
GTX 780
16 GB DDR3
ASUS p8h61-mx (mobo)
600W PSU (46A on 12V rail)
Windows 10 Pro 64bit

Additional info:

I can use my old GTX 650 ti without any problem. Also, if I remove the GTX 780, the iGPU works perfectly as well.
I have already tried the GPU with different PSU but to no avail.
I have tried fresh installation on a seperate SSD.
I have also tried fresh installation of Windows 7.
I havent checked the card in another PC (I dont have spare/secondary PC).

I assume you've either figured it out at this point or moved on, if so, could you leave what you did to fix it (Assuming you did) in order to help people in the future? I tried thinking of a few solutions but they would've already been covered in your previous tests, so I must admit I'm stumped here. Have you tried it back in your mates PC to see if it's still working there?
