Question GPU fan problem

Hi was hoping someone could help. When my computers idle for 5 mins or so my GPU fans will go nuts for a couple of secs and then stop, but it keeps cycling until I wake the computer. This only tends to happen when my monitor goes to sleep, otherwise it's fine. Does anyone know what might be causing this ?
