Ive just built my pc and my fans for my GPU aren't going! I'm just wondering do they only start running when it gets to a certain heat?

Solution
The MSI 970 GTX does not spin up its fans until the card hits around the 50c mark. Below that the fans will remain off which helps with acoustics as the card is being cooled passively (not that the card gets very loud to begin with).

If you want to make sure that the fans are working correctly, you could either run a bench or set the fan profiles differently. It would probably be more quick to just load up a bench and see if the fans kick on.

No, most GPU fans run at a minimum of 25% regardless of whether the GPU is under load. Make sure you plugged in all the power cables required and if necessary, reseat the GPU.

Newer cards, like certain GTX 970 models, do not turn on the fans until the card reaches a certain temperature. Do some light gaming and monitor your temps. If they reach 70 or higher and the fans still don't kick on, you will know better whether it is a serious problem.

It was said already that some GPUs don't power up until certain temps. If power cables aren't plugged in the GPU won't function. Not sure how your comment added to the discussion.

In the OP, it was not clear if he was getting power at all OR if the GPU was working despite no fan spin. First rule of troubleshooting, start with the easiest explanations and go forward. Not sure how your jabs are contributing to a helpful environment.
