GPU fans spinning 100% on startup, no video being sent to monitor (even w/ gpu removed running on integrated)

Hopefully this is the correct area for my problem...
My Computer will not boot properly. I turn on my computer and my GPU fans immediately start spinning at 100% speed. No video is being sent to the monitor. I can hear the noises windows 7 makes at the login screen, I'm even able to log in, I hear the login noise and then I can hear the "error notification" noise. I removed my GPU and reset my motherboard by pulling the battery, unplugged the power cable and held the power button for 30 seconds. Booting without the GPU using integrated gfx provides the same result. The bios screen is not even displayed. I booted with all USB devices and RAM removed, and I'm still getting the same results...a powered computer with no video or BIOS post screen. I will try booting with all drives removed but something tells me I am going to run into the same issues...
Side note: My computer was running a bit sluggishly last night while gaming with a friend. I checked my core temps and my CPU was running at 96 Celsius so I immediately shut off. My heat sink was dislodged from the CPU. I corrected the heat sink placement and went to bed. Today I went to boot back up and here I am. Please help!! 🙁

i do it this way.......... put card in........... leave monitor hooked to board........... boot to bios........... set graphics to card............ save/it auto reboots........ during reboot I swap cable from board to gpu.........

or........ you can make change in bios without card in.......... when it reboots itself...( give it a few seconds ) ..... flip switch on power supply. put card in. ....... swap cable/reboot.............. i always do the first option.

Swify: What you said worked! I'm making it to BIOS and it's telling me that I have CPU over temp, just seconds after the machine boots it's already at 82c. Is that possible? Could my diode/thermometer be off? Assuming it IS too hot... I just need to replace thermal paste and heatsink, correct? In your expert opinion what is my next step? I just skipped my BIOS screen and I'm at the login screen, it looks like some sort of f****d up oil painting. Is this normal? I'll try to upload a pic from my ipad.

not normal............... don't use machine. cpu is over heating.

you need to pull the motherboard out to do a good job.

remove heat sink and fan. clean up old paste from top of cpu and bottom of heat sink.
carefully look at how the pins fit into the clear white plastic sheaths... that they snap into........ dry testing it a couple of times will familiarize you with the operation....... and look at what position ( turning the pin ( slot in black pin top ) needs to be in to fit though the clear white/and through the motherboard....... so the "clip" or "snap" into proper position...................... also, clip pins in a crisscross pattern vs clock wise or counter clock wise........... the heat sink needs to sit evenly and firmly ( held by all 4pins ) on top of the cpu for it to pull heat properly...............

reapply new thermal paste........... put heat sink on cpu and push the pins as described until they snap into place......... having the board out will let you see if the pins are actually where they are supposed to be..

see how it goes............. see if machine will boot normally. check bios on boot up for temps. maybe all is not lost.

Okay, I just got some arctic silver 5 and cleaned the old compound off. I have re-seated the heatsink and it feels nice and secure. Going to boot up without GPU now and see how it goes. Will edit this post with results in a bit.

Edit: My CPU seems to be sitting at a pleasant 41C I will now attempt to boot into windows 7 on my integrated gfx. Will update with more details In a minute

Edit 2: the pre-login screen where the 4 balls are dancing around each other appears 100% normal. The colors are what they should be. But the login screen looks all messed up exactly how it is in my previous post. I am getting an error from catalyst control center after I log in reading "No AMD graphics driver is installed, or the AMD driver is not functioning properly. Please install the AMD driver appropriate for your AMD hardware" could this be related to my GPU not being installed currently, or corrupted drivers? I did notice that when I was fiddling with my rig this morning the GPU felt fairly loose and wobbly, even after securing it with the mobo clip and the rear case clips. There is definitely some wiggle room I didn't notice before. Is that normal? What is my next step?

your monitor res isn't set and yes, the drivers need to be redone.................. but to speed things up and to maybe pick something up your system needs.................... go to windows updates right now. don't worry about installing latest drivers yet. just do what windows gives you.

( right click on monitor/properties/settings )set res

I'm getting a "Windows could not search for new updates" error. it must have something to do with my inability to access the internet... I am fairly certain everything is up to date, I keep automatic updates turned on.

the disc that came with the motherboard............. insert that.......... look for LAN driver or ethernet driver................... also install other drivers off the disc related to sound and motherboard................... once the ethernet driver is installed.................. you should be able to get to windows updates.............. gonna be a long night to get everything done that needs to be done before you can start "playing".............. sit back and relax and go with the flow.

Manually change the date to the current date or it will keep getting the website error, when you reset the CMOS battery it cleared the date and needs to be reset manually first in windows. then you can connect and have it automatically set the time.

Will do, something interesting happened when I booted into safe mode... The colors were fixed! I'm now back in "normal boot mode" in the process of reinstalling my mobo drivers.
A side note - I am able to access certain sites that are not SSL encrypted. And internet explorer lets me access SSL encrypted sites but cautions against it.

---okay I have reinstalled LAN drivers and am rebooting. We'll see what happens...

--- same error. can't find updates.

---in safe mode I'm getting the same results with SSL encrypted pages...it just looks a bit prettier.

That helped! SSL works and it's looking for updates.

Maybe I'm impatient....or just concerned.... My baseline concern still remains a mystery. If my GPU is plugged in and the DVI cable is going from it to my monitor; on boot nothing is displayed on screen and the gpu spins up extremely fast, yet audio still comes through my speakers. the GPU also feels a little loose when inserted. Definitely not as tight as I feel it should be.

Edit: installed an intel graphics update, it doesn't look like a f*****d up oil painting anymore. Next step, gentlemen?

Is this something I have to do with my GPU plugged in? Or will those settings still be there with my GPU uninstalled? I can't even get into BIOS if my GPU is in, since no video is being sent (received?) to/from my monitor.

This may seem silly, but I can't find anywhere in my bios how to change that.

Another note..I'm still running on integrated but my GPU is now installed. The GPU isn't even showing up on my device manager. Catalyst control center can't find it either. Looks like either my GPU or the socket on my mobo that plugs into my GPU is broken... It's just not even recognizing it

Okay, I disabled my intel accelerated graphics driver and the screen went dark. In my panicked state I shut off the computer, plugged my VGI cable into my GPU...lo and behold and works!!! No errors or BSODs so far. I honestly don't know what changed...but it works. I have a feeling this won't be the last time this happens, seeing as how this appeared to fix itself completely at random. Anyways.. THANK YOU FOR THE HELP. Your insight is quite magnificent. I'm going to go eat some food now. I'm feeling nauseous due to lack of food and me slaving over my computer demons.

I was able to find it, it was already set to PCI/PCIE, as it should be. I rebooted, disabled intel gam' rebooted again and it is working O_O THANK YOU *bows*
