Hello.

I have saved up some money and I want to upgrade my monitor (since its a 17'). I got my eyes on the ASUS ROG Swift 27' monitor. It has everything I will ever need. And those thin bezels. *_*
But I started to think, if I will have the PC-Power to run it, since its a 120Hz monitor. I can buy a second GTX760 in addition to my current one or sell it and save up for a GTX780Ti maybe? Or should I get the monitor, when the price will drop for it and in the late 2014 or start 2015 get the GTX8xx series card? I am running a Corsair RM850 under my ''hood'', so I think that SLI is possible. But I dont want the problems with scaling and stuff. The games I will play is CS, BF, racing games.
Maybe a smart thing would be a BenQ XL2420Z and then the rest of the money would go in cooling and case?
My price range is ~price of GTX780.

The ASUS ROG Swift is a very nice monitor indeed, but expensive.

Personally, I am going to stay @ 1080p 144hz for a few more years until 1440p+ is more standard. Prices are just too high right now, and they will definitely come down. Plus GPU performance will get better and will be able to power 1440p easier.

You should also consider if you had the ROG Swift, A GTX 780 would not be able to run any demanding games @ 1440p 120fps. Not even a GTX780 Ti would do that at 1440p. All these little factors makes 1080p 144hz really appealing, including lower cost. The Swift would have g-sync, so it should still run smooth, but the extra refresh rate is somewhat wasted.

Also, another thing to consider is the Nvidia 3D vision. I have never been a fan of 3D stuff because it felt like a gimmick to me, but recently I was reading reviews and decided to try it out. It's actually really awesome. Playing Diablo 3 in 3D is amazing. The reason I am mentioning this, is because 3D is much more demanding then regular 2D gaming. It's roughly twice as demanding. My 780 Ti sometimes will drop into the 70fps range on Diablo 3, which isn't exactly a demanding game. It would only be that much worse @ 1440p.

Then should I get the XL2420Z and a GTX780? I always get the chance to upgrade in the middle of GPU gen-change-process. 😀 I could try to stick with a GTX760 @1080p for now and later get a beasty GTX8xx series card. Seems good? Never tried 1080p. 1280x1024 is my daily driver for like 7 years now 😀

Yeah that would be a good plan. You have a few options really, so whatever you feel would be most beneficial to yourself I would do.

Another thing to consider is instead of the XL2420Z, you could save about $100 and get the ASUS VG248QE. The BenQ does have slightly better colors, but the VG248QE is an outstanding value for what it is.

Now I am in a crossroad - get the ROG Swift and then upgrade my GTX 760 to something really good in 2015 Q1
or
Get the BenQ XL2x20G and get maybe a GTX 880 (Ti maybe).
The 1440p thing will make my wallet really empty.
