It's not that simple...
How's the rest of your system? You'll need to mach the GPU to your system.
If your system isn't good enough (mainly CPU and PSU), you can't really even upgrade your GPU.

The cheapest card I'd personally get for 1440p is a GTX 970. You can go cheaper though but the lowest I'd go is the $250 range where you can sometimes find the R9 290. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202043
