I am planning to either 1. Sell my desktop, since I have a new notebook or 2. Upgrade the GPU to keep up with new/upcoming games.

As the title states, the only thing that would want to upgrade is the GPU. Currently running, a GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 970 4GB G1 GAMING OC EDITION, and would like to get a nVidia GPU that would run good with the Intel Core i5-4670K.

Budget price, $500 to $600, if it is worth future proofing for maybe 2 years.

Thanks a head of time.

The 970 should be fine for 1080p, I don't know much about the FC game engine, so I'm not sure how well it's optimized, but I have a coworker still running a 970 and he's pretty happy with it.

I'd say just wait until FC5 comes out, and if you aren't happy with the 970, grab a 1070 or 1080. Now's not a good time to buy anyway, since prices are still a bit inflated from the currency mining fad. A 1070 or 1080 should last you a few years as long as you stick to 1080p. You MAY have to lower some settings with the 1070 for newer games in 2 years, but it's hard to say for certain. Honestly, the 1070 ti is rumored to release soon and might offer the perfect price/performance for you.
Depends on what you want to do with it, I'm running a 4670k with a 1070 and a 2k 144hz gsync monitor and am very happy with the performance I get, though I don't need all epic settings or 144 fps all the time. With most modern titles, I can get around 80-90 fps in 2k on high settings, and I find that to be plenty for myself.

What games are you looking to play and what kind of resolution/settings would you like to play at?

Thanks for the reply, I used to run a 27 in monitor and 23 in monitor, which I think were 1920x1200. I was running it with a 40 in. TV via HDMI, which I think was 1920x1080, I really enjoyed gaming on this PC with the 40 in TV, but my keyboard/mouse cables kept getting in the way, (kids running in front of the TV) If I get this PC set up again, it will be set up to game on the 27 in Monitor and stream on the 40 in. TV.

Games? Most current, to older games on Steam, upcoming games. FC5.

Would the 1070 give it (the PC) some extended life?? Maybe 2 years?

Thanks.

There are wireless keyboards/mice/game controllers available btw. ;)
If you game on 1080p@60Hz screen, then GTX970 is still pretty capable graphics card.
But if you think, upgrade is necessary, then you can get GTX 1070 or GTX 1080.

I just never liked Wireless keyboard/mice set up, nor controllers. it was just something I set up to use the 40 in. TV, I doubt I will using that kind of set up again.

I might look at getting the 1070 at a good price, since they seems to be about $400+, but then again, if you saying the 970 is capable of running FC5 which comes out in Feb 2018, then I might just skip the upgrade. My new notebook has a 1060, but still like the aspect of gaming a real keyboard and mouse. The notebook is mainly for mobility.

Thanks.

Seems a little research will give you the answer we are looking for.

https://gtxhdgamer.net/far-cry-5-system-requirements-2018-pc/

FAR CRY 5 SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS MINIMUM

Processor : Intel Core i5-750 2.66GHz | AMD Phenom II X4 955
Graphics : Nvidia GeForce GTX 650 | AMD Radeon HD 5850 1024MB
Operating System : Windows 7, Windows 8.1, Windows 10 (64-bit versions only)
Video RAM Memory : 1 Gigabyte
RAM : 4 GB+
Direct X 11
HDD Space: 30 GB
FAR CRY 5 SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS MAXIMUM

Processor : Intel Core i5-2400S 2.5GHz | AMD FX-8350 4.0 GHz
Graphics : NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 (6 GB) | AMD Radeon R9 280X (2 GB)
Operating System : Windows 7, Windows 8.1, Windows 10 (64-bit versions only)
Video RAM Memory : 2 Gigabyte
RAM : 16 GB
Direct X 12
HDD Space: 30 GB

So, I am guessing a GTX 1070 or 1080 next year would be a good idea, awaiting prices to come down a bit, but the GTX 970 I currently have, I should be fine. Good to know that I can run this on my New notebook, AW 17R4.

Thanks for everyone's comments.
