Hello everyone, Newbie here so please excuse my lack of knowledge if it evident in my question.

I’m a long time flight sim enthusiast and I’m looking to build a new pc that will remain relevant for a few years for the current MSFS 2020 and the upcoming MSFS 2024.

I’ve fairly decided on the build as follows: CPU INTEL I7-14700KF MOTHERBOARD ASUS PRIME Z790P-WIFI DDR5 RAM TEAMFORCE 64GB DDR5 NVME M.2 CRUCIAL P3 1TB LIQUID COOLER DARKFLASH DX-240MM ARGB PSU ASUS ROG THOR 1200W PLATINUM II 80+ CASE TORTOX CURVO ARGB WITH 6 FANS

My only point of confusion now is the GPU. I’m torn between the RTX 3090 which has excellent VRAM, and the RTX 4070ti, the RTX 4080 and the RTX 4090.

The 4090 seems to be the obvious choice but it’s just ridiculously expensive and from whatever recent videos I’ve been watching the DLSS3 with DX12 on MSFS while drastically improving in frame rates has some weird artefacts that I find a bit jarring so i am considering using TAA instead sacrificing frame rates.

Any advise would be most helpful considering price vs performance

Thanks and Cheers Sandy

IMHO go with the 4070Ti Super, it costs almost the same as the 407Ti. With the super you get 16gb Vram and a little more fps. The 4080/4080 SUPER (THEY GET WITHIN 2FPS OF EACH OTHER) have 16gb Vram also, gets about 10-15 more fps then the 4070TI super and comes in at around $200 more dollars than the 4070ti super.

Microsoft Flight simulator 2021 really likes the x3d chips. I doubt 2024 will be much different. Also, with Intel's current issues, I would recommend against getting a 13th or 14th gen cpu.

I believe MS Flight simulator 2024 will have multithreading available this time around. So should be fine to run the 14700k. Btw Intel has finally discovered the reason for the instability problems. Within a few weeks the new microcode/bios will finally cover all the bases. I have a 14900k and I keep the power settings within Intel's recommendation and have no issues.

Given how Intel handled this, I am not convinced they have fixed anything yet. Hence why I am still on a 12700k, despite my earlier desire to bump to a 14700k myself.

I myself am waiting on MSFS 2024... and went 9950X with 4090. Hopefully the multithreading will make 2024 a lot less annoying than 2020 was when running in 4K.

If you can get the 4090 and still make your mortgage payment... do it. You won't regret it.
