My gaming rig recently took a dump when my PSU and GPU bit the dust. I'd like a new GPU that will give me good performance without being bottlenecked by my older components.

My rig is:
AMD Fx-60 dual core proc(2.6ghz)
2gb ddr 3200 RAM
ASUS mobo(not sure what it's model number is)
I used to have an 8800GTX gpu in there

What would give me similar or better performance to my 8800gtx without getting bottlenecked? I was thinkin maybe a 4850 or 4870?

I game at 1680x1050(I also have a 42in 1080p TV i might hook it up to) and the games I'm playing now are Dragon Age: Origins, Mass Effect, UT3, L4D, Grid, WoW, etc.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Sorry, Nvidia hasn't done so well in matching price/performance ratios of ATI in recent times. For a set budget, ATI will almost always give more bang for the buck.

At that pricepoint, you could have a DX11 ATI5750, or a 5770 if you could stretch the budget a little. Although, with that CPU, the 5750 might be better suited.

The GTS250 is basically a newer version of your old card performs little better but is much more energy efficient.
GTX260 would be an upgrade but as more folks point out here to expensive compared to the HD4870.
Price wise if you want to do an upgrade the HD4870 or HD5770 would make the most sense.

awesome thanks guys! I'm prolly gonna skip on the 5xxx series cards for now as none of my games are dx11(plus the rest of my rig is pretty last gen) and it seems the 4870 performs about 10% better than the 5770 right now. I got a ton of games I have yet to beat/play before dx11 games come out and hopefully prices will drop on dx11 cards. thanks for all the input guys!
