Hey all :) (newonforum)

So i have had this problem with my GPU (XFX HD 7950) (atleast its where the symptoms are) for the past tree weeks. Its a problem that annoys me quite a bit and limit my experience within my computer.

The problem is that whenever the card reaches 72-75 celsius during when i play or during benchmarks, my pc just turns off without warnings. It just "dies". It wont turn on again unless i turn off the PSU (Corsair TX850) and empty the power circuit by holding the power button in 10 seconds. When it turns on the Graphic card fans spin at max and i dont get any signal to my monitor even though i can hear windows booting through my speakers. I must then restart the pc in order for it to boot normally, but sometimes it says that windows couldnt boot properly and leaves me on a screen where i can choose between booting windows normally or do startup repair, but my keyboard dont work during this screen.

I recently reinstalled windows 7 ultimate and fresh drivers but this didnt seem to fix the issue. I also clean my pc every week and the gpu invidually sometimes, and i have 7 case fans so my pc is well ventilated.

I think the first time this happened were after running furmark benchmark, but im not completely sure. I also have made sure the 6-pin and 8-pin sits firmly in place. Ive also tried to run the fans on the gpu at 100% with my windows open while running unigine valley but it still got to 72-75 celsius and died.

Ive been quite frustrated over this problem so i appreciate help very much as ive tried to reach out for help on other forums without any luck.

Thanks in advance :)

Solution
RMA the card. Don't bother trying to solve this problem. It seems like the card is faulty. I wouldn't know what causes the problem but maybe you have bad sensors on the card? Anyway if you still have the warranty don't bother, I'd say.
It's weird that the computer already shuts down on 75° because that is not the max temp for the 7950 and if you know that my old 4890 used to run at 90° sometimes that means something isn't right with your card. If you can, you can open up your 7950 and apply new thermal paste. If that doesn't help the only thing that you can do is RMA it...

That seems really hot for a card doesn't it? I know AMD usually runs a bit hotter than nvidia- but my GTX 460 and now GTX 770 never really get any hotter than 67-68 on a max stress test. How is your case ventilation?

My case vetilation is excellent (6 120mm and 1 200mm fans)
And i clean my pc every week

Opening the card would ruin the warranty. And 72-75 celsius doesnt seem to be too hot.

Who will ever know that you opened the card if you do it carefully? 😛

Xfx were so smart and put warranty stickers on the pcb screws.

It sounds to me that it's just shutting down way before its temp limit. Most cards run normally between 60 and 70 degrees and certainly shouldn't shut down your system before 90 degrees. I would suggest running a different card in your system first, just to verify that your gpu is the cause of the problem and then RMA it.

I only have a shit nvidia gt 6200 its totally different. It would be pointless.

Ive tried registering and going to that website but all i can do is create a support ticket (wich ive allready done) but i get no answers. So i want to talk to them because its way more efficient, but i cant find the support phone number on their site. 🙁

Yeah I don't think they have a phone number on the website, which is a bummer for you. Just wait till they answer your suppor ticket. Maybe you can alslo request a phone number trough a ticket?

*update* My graphics card is now dead, the pc wont boot when its in the slot connected to powersupply.
Will most likely RMA the card. (i now must use a old gt 6209 card , atleast it works)
