gpu has 4 pin connectors, but only 3 wires

So my 770 gpu has 3 4 pin connectors, but each one only has 3 wires. I just noticed this, I can't understand why the 4th pin has to be there if no wire connects to it.

Here's a pic so you know what I mean:

don't use that 4pin, there should be a 6/8 pin in the GPU itself. that is an adapter, don't use it unless you have no other option

check the gpu, on the side, there should be 1 or 2 6(or 8) pin

Oh ok, I think I saw that, and I hope one of those cords came with my psu. So should I get better performance when I switch the cords?
