[SOLVED] GPU Heat limit

Alright, I just got a MSI RX580 Armor Graphics card. I am using MSI Afterburner to watch my temps and all that good stuff. Is 178 degrees Fahrenheit safe for this GPU?

Warm, but still safe. I presume that is load temps at max usage?

That's about normal for the AMD card. It gets quite warm maxed out. My RX 590 gets about that or slightly more when it's been at max load for awhile. More air flow thru your case may help lower the temp a bit. But I wouldn't worry.

Alright. Appreciate the help! This Graphics card is going to be a part of a new build (and my first build) that I am working on. So I'm always questioning things.

Have you monitored GPU frequency?

You can lower temps by undervolting. It would most likely improve performance by allowing the GPU to hit higher/ advertised frequencies. AMDs WattMan utility (already installed and running in the AMD driver software) is best for that.

My RX480 does 1300MHz @ 73C and 1200rpm fans @ 1020mV. I've also re-applied TIM on the GPU. Before the TIM job, it was running 85C @ 2400rpm

MSI Afterburner has that capability as well I think. I can monitor / change "Power Limit" and "Core Voltage".

Those are offsets that are still sitting on top of the "auto" settings. Not exactly the same as manually setting the frequency and voltage of each P state.

If you want to try that. List the 7 frequencies of your card and I can give you corresponding voltages to start from.
