Since few days ago I noticed that my GPU is acting weird. While my PC is idle for about 5 mins the GPU starts to heat up to about 64-67 degree. When I move my mouse the GPU starts to lose temp and gets back to normal temp at about 30 degree. What could be the cause of that ?
I have asus gtx 760. When I look at the fens they are also working fine at about 1200- 1700 RPM when the heat occurs. I did a virus check but didn't find anything. In the task manager I don't really see any process that could cause a GPU heat up.

I'm having almost the exact same problem and it happened around a couple days ago for me too. I installed new drivers, cleaned out the dust, cleaned my fans, tried to increase ventilation but none of that worked.

Ok I just rechecked my fans when the prob occurs and the GPU fans are getting up to 2300 RPM so apparently it ain't the fans problem. Something makes my GPU to work for no reason.

Exactly my problem as I've already said. Anyone who can provide insight to this is greatly appreciated.

Ok so after some looking around I found the problem and the solution. Apparently the problem is indeed a virus however it's a different than the usual we get. Apparently it's a new one or so I think cuz it didn't get detected by Kaspersky 2013/2014 or Windows Defender. It got detected only with AVG ( which I find very surprising ). So the virus we are talking is a bitcoin malware. There is a lot about bitcoins and if you are interested you can go and read about it but to put it simple it uses p2p so once u unplug your internet your GPU overheating stops or it never happens actually. So that was the first clue that made me think it could be a bitcoin the other was the overheating GPU. Apparently "mining bitcoins" requres a lot from you GPU and you need the p2p to actually send the information. And there it was so AVG was the only anti vir. that detected it well there could be other ofc but with the 2 a mention above I didn't get any results.

never something I ever would have thought of.............

"It said that the Trend Micro Smart Protection Network had detected 3 malwares called BKDR_BTMINE, TROJ_COINMINE and HKTL_BITCOINMINE which turned infected systems into a Bitcoin miner, making them virtual assets for the criminals."
