For a long time I have been trying to figure out why my computer quits to the desktop and then back to the game constantly, while playing games.

Today I had the grand idea of polling the GPU temp. According to MSI Afterburner, it hit 108 C, as it's max, and hovered around 105 C while playing my game (KSP).

Obviously this is a problem, as I am not aware of many computer items that operate normally at such a temperature.

Finally, what would you guys recommend looking into as a solution?

I have read that thermal paste, fans might be a good solution, anything else?

Thanks!

what gpu do you have? those are not normal. i agree with the post above, first check the gpu, clean it. if it is cleaned and the problem is still there, see if the hsf is seated properly. note that you will void your warranty if you decide to remove the heat sink.
improving the air flow inside the case will also help

It may sound stupid but when last time have you cleaned radiator on graphic card? This is first step, second - as you mentioned check also thermal paste on gpu chip. If radiator is working properly and card is still operative (after such high temperature) that should fix the problem. On my old Radeon 2600XT difference was around 30 C (after cleaning + new paste)..

Appreciate the help. The last time I cleaned it, shoot, I don't actually remember, quite a while ago though. That may be a problem. My current GPU is a GeFource 8800 GT. I also understand that wire management might help things, something I should look into. It may help if I provide an image, please view the link below:

Again, thanks guys!
