GPU Idles high 144hz Monitor

Hello everyone. first timer and a newbie here.
Here it goes..
I got an Evga 780sc 3gb running two monitors. My main monitor is a 144hz Benq. I see in precisionX that my temp and load is higher than usual. (50 C @ around 500mhz gpu clock). When I have it at 60hz-120hz the temp and clock goes down to normal (30 C 300mhz). My previous setup was evga 760 in sli and there was no high temp. My question is... is this normal (more juice to run 144hz monitor) or I have a bad card. Many thanks in advance : )

Is it harder to run faster? Not trying to be a jerk just explaining in easy terms.
