Hello,

Just noticed my GPU is only running @ PCI 4.0 x8 instead of x16. I don't have m2 installed on gen4 pci slot.
Also my PCI x16 Max Speed is stuck at x8 in the BIOS. I tried the most common solutions found on internet, such as removing and reseating the GPU and changing my ssd slot, but nothing helps.
The BIOS won't let me change the PCI_E setting to x16, it is still stuck at x8 ?

Specs if needed (CPU Z link) >> https://valid.x86.fr/zukqgx

I'm thinking of a possible hardware failure but if u have any advice, i'd gladly hear it.

Thanks.

11600k
Tuf Z590 Plus
RTX 4070 Zotac
16 gb ddr4

My ssd installed on one of the bottom m2 slots. Not the near gpu one. Maybe it still interferes with gpu?

Also not just GPU-Z, bios is also showing x8 max

Edit: Bios Version is 1801

First, thanks for the replies.

I managed to fix this but came out another problem. Regarding the fix, i removed both gpu and ssd, cleared the CMOS, installed GPU first andd booted into bios. Then i put my ssd on right bottom slot and booted again. I checked gpu-z and seen the gpu running at x16 normally. View: https://imgur.com/a/U9hAaby

After a brief time, pc complete froze and forcing me to restart from case button. Now gpu z shows gpu running x8 again. I restarted the pc couple of times, when it starts @ x16 mode, the pc freezes after a while (usually couple of mins) and forcing me restart everytime. After restarting, gpu goes back to x8 mode and system runs flawlessly. Pc always freezing when it starts @X16 mode.

I have no idea what causing the issue, but i smell a faulty hardware.

Your ssd should be in the primary slot typically. You may need to do a bios update too.
Yep latest bios.
Try forcing PCIE slot into Gen 3 mode.

Are you using a PCIE riser?

your ssd needs firmware update, FW version 3B2QEXM7 had bugs (write errors/drive prematurely dying/high temperatures/drive recognition errors, etc )
you should update it to 4B2QEXM7 through samsung magician

I'll try these all after i return home. Thank you

Here is the latest,

Reseated cpu, cleared cmos, disabled XMP/ Asus MCE / Intel Boost. Moved ssd to gen 4 slot. Reseated gpu.Not using pci riser currently.

Ssd on top Gen 4 slot = Gpu always starts at x16 but pc freezes after boot. Force restarting swaps back to x8. No issues after.

Ssd on bottom gen 3 slots = Randomly starts between x8 and x16, still freezing @X16 mode but it takes longer. Once crashed when opened a graphics heavy game. (Cp 2077 w/ rt). Otherwise its random. Still no issues @ x8.

Forced PCI slot to Gen3 mode in bios, gpu was always on x8 Gen 3.0 mode instead of x16 3.0. No crashes.

Disabled igpu andd updated ssd firmware too. No effect. I came into a conclusion that recent thunderstorm alongside with hard power cut off happened last week have lead some sort of power surge and it may caused some issues on my motherboard (or gpu? ).

I think im gonna use this pc for a while then look for potential cpu / mobo upgrade. 11th gen is long overdue anyway. You may close the thread.

In power outages, the first thing that gets damaged is the motherboard, but most of the times it also takes the graphics card with it, do both together RMA and don't say it happened with a power outage.

Probably not the motherboard though.
I've seen multiple videos with gpu board level repairs, when graphics card doesn't use all pcie lanes.
Solution usually is gpu chip reballing.

from bios you have made option 4x16 or you have it auto?
*If you had power outages, your motherboard is useless and you are trying for no reason because nothing is going to be fixed

Try the cable that you send to the card in the other socket that your power supply has.
I hope you shut down and keep plugging away at whatever you've been doing so far.
