GPU Mining or miner?

Solution
In a GPU mining system the cpu practically does nothing other than run the OS. The graphics card do all the leg work. But they aren't totally different system. Most mining software will allow you to select how you mine. You can select GPU or CPU and the software will switch to use whatever you select. When I was mining Ethereum, I tried mining with my old AMD 8320 eight core. It was very slow, somewhere along 8 mh/s. When I used my old R9 290X it was around 32 mh/s.
GPU miners and mining are pretty much the same thing. A gpu, or series of gpu's are integrated in a system to perform algorithms (or chunks of one) and for each algorithm solved you are paid in the currency you are mining. Graphics cards (gpu) can mine faster and more efficiently than a cpu (processor).

How it related to CPU?
GPU is totally different system right?
