GPU needs 6 pin, only works with 6+2 Pin?

As title says, my GPU has a 6 pin connector located at the top, however when I plug a 6 pin the LED flashes red. So I tried plugging a 6+2pin in and that somehow managed to work? Is that normal. Just on the spec it says I'll only need x1 6pin for the GPU to work.

Well this is kind of confusing, if there are only 6 pins.. how did you plug in 8? Also MAKE SURE you are not plugging the 12v cord into GPU thats suppose to go into motherboard.

And what 6 pin cable did you use before? 6+2 PCIE is the right cable.

A 6+2 pin PCIe power connector can be used for either a 6-pin connector (only connecting the six pin part) or an 8-pin connector (connecting both the 6 pin and the 2-pin part) on a graphics card. It is strange that your PSU's 6-pin connector doesn't seem to work. But anyway, if it's working fine with the 6+2 pin then you are good to go, no worries.

It just slides in like this 6+2
The 12v is in mobo too yes.

Yeah why fix what's not broken haha. Was just curious, thank you all for your answers

If it has a connector for the 8 pin then you should be using that.
