gpu no signal

so i just got a new gpu and i put it on the motherboard connected all the cables and everything but as soon as I press the power button on the PC on the tv screen it says no signal, I don't know much about PCs so if anyone can help that'd be great. The gpu I'm using is an xfx r9 285 and I'm using an HDMI I don't know what's wrong si if anyone can help thanks

What motherboard? What was the old GPU?
