I recently build a computer with:
i7 processor
Gigabyte z97 g1 motherboard
Corsair 850W psu
MSi R9 380 gpu
As I said, I plugged in the gpu, and turned it on and nothing happened. So I ran the monitor through the motherboard and downloaded the Liveupdater 6 to get the drivers and get the error of "platform does not support this application" when I try to run it to get the drivers. I read somewhere that this could be because the motherboard was not also MSi? So, I figured it was the lack of drivers causing the problem. After trying to get downloads from both the MSi and AMD websites, neither worked. A message would pop up after a little bit saying that an error had occured during installation. I thought that it might be detecting only the onboard intel graphics so i tried disabling those, but to no avail. I thought my card might be doa, so I sent it back. However, I just got my new one. I deleted then reinstalled the Liveupdate and MSi stuff, then disabled the onboard graphics. The changes would take effect after restarting, so I shut down, plugged in the new card and turned it back on. However, the same thing happened. Liveupdate 6 also still refuses to run and I cannot download any drivers. I am unsure what the problem is and if it is a hardware or software problem. Any help? Thanks

Update: After reading around, I found out that I had missed one of the obvious answers. It had 2 power slots and I assumed it was either one, depending on if you had 6 or 8 pin, but apparently it is both. So, I tried plugging in both power connectors and it turns on and the fans spin up now. However, I still cannot download drivers. I THINK this is because it simply detects the onboard graphics and AMD/MSi has no drivers for that and so brings up an error message. However, I am hesitant to disable/delete drivers for onboard graphics before I have the correct drivers. Any advice?

Now that your card is appropriately powered with both the 6 pin and 8 pin connectors, make sure you now are using your GPUs video connector for output, not the motherboard's HDMI which will use the HD 4600 on the Intel CPU.

After connecting to your video card, if it still doesn't get display. Unplug the computer completely after shutting down, and hold the power button on your case, this should discharge any electricity in the system. After about 15 seconds of holding the power button down, plug your system back in, and restart. Now, it SHOULD work. If it does work, download the latest AMD drivers from their website.

The latest drivers are AMD Catalyst 15.7.1, just go ahead and download them directly from AMD's site and bypass Liveupdate 6. When installing the latest drivers it will offer to do stuff like increase your resolution, or enabled Virtual Super Resolution while installing. Deny both of those options, as I've seen them cause problems on new installs of Windows. Wait for the drivers to be completely installed then increase your resolution by right-clicking the desktop. Be sure to get back to me if you have any problems.
