GPU not fitting into case right

I recently purchased many parts for my first build, and I encountered the problem of my Sapphire Radeon R9 280X 3GB Tri-X not fitting into my Rosewill Challenger case. Could I potentially cut out room for the graphics card in the case b/c there are some bays in the way

You can usually remove the bays. If you can't get another case.

Long story short; I can't get another case in a reasonable amount of time, but I have not been able to remove the internal parts of the external bay slots up to this point.

Does the case instructions show how to remove the hdd cages?

No. It only shows how to take off the side panels and front panel. The rest of the instructions are related to installation.

Then get another case. Check before you buy whether the case will take a card that long.
