Gpu not getting enough power?

im concerned with whether or not mu gpu is getting enough power from my psu
i was playing a game and then the fan started running really loud and then my pc restarted im not sure if its caused by my psu
Specs:
Thermaltake tr2 500w psu
amd phenom ii x4 910
4gb ddr2
asus m5a78l-m lx
evga superclocked gtx 580 doubleshot 1.5gb

That TR2 is one of the poorest on the market , replace it ASAP.

i was planning on replacing it since the recommended for my gpu is 600w
but is that the reason my pc shut off, i read somewhere that if your psu doesnt supply enough power to the gpu the pc will shut off

Yes that s a good power supply , The TR2 is very unstable probably causing those issues.
