GPU not showing up in device manager.

I foolishly bought a HP Pavilion p6-2310ea about 2 years ago, instead of building my own PC.
I was planning on building a new gaming machine but the money was needed elsewhere after I bought a new PSU and GPU. I tried to install the MSI 7950 Twin Frozr in the HP Pavilion as the motherboard was listed as compatible on the cards website but my PC wasn't recognising it. Im sure the 500w EVGA power supply was enough to power the card but it wouldnt pop up anywhere.

My question is do HP lock their motherboards so the only gpu's you can install are the "recommended upgrades" on their website? If not, can someone please help me and explain whats wrong? If its the PSU I can get a more powerful one easily.

Did you plug your HDMI / DVI into the gpu or your motherboards integrated graphics?

I tried both, the MoBo worked OK but the gpu wasnt recognised, and into the GPU nothing happened.

I think you may either have a faulty GPU or your PSU is int sufficient enough to support it.

Do you know how I can test to make sure its not the GPU before buying a new PSU?

If you have a friend or live near i micro - center, you can either put the GPU in there PC and see if it works. If not its the PSU thats causing you the headache.
